About Bright Beginnings

GIVING CHILDREN THE BEST START IN LIFE

Bright Beginnings has progressed rapidly from its original launch in 2017. We employ a range of staff across the three strands of the charity and rely on invaluable support from our dedicated volunteers.

Our impact

We were awarded Charity of the Year in 2021 at the Guernsey Community Foundation Awards, just four years into our journey, and appointed our first Chief Executive Officer in 2023.  We are proud that our work is in line with the recommendations of the Princess of Wales’ ‘Shaping Us’ campaign and of our role in increasing awareness of the vital importance of the early years of a child’s life.

We are pleased to present this charity overview, which showcases the crucial support Bright Beginnings provides to our island community.

Bright Beginnings Our Impact

Fundraising

Each year we need to raise a significant amount of money to continue providing the support to families and opportunities for children to thrive that Bright Beginnings is renowned for. We rely on the generosity of private donors, grant giving bodies and corporate sponsors to provide our Children’s Centre and The Next Chapter services. Any surplus income from the Nursery & Preschool assists with the costs of the Children’s Centre.

We are extremely grateful for all donations; every little helps to ensure that we can make a positive difference for Guernsey’s children.

Organisation

Our highly qualified and experienced teams undertake regular training to ensure the charity consistently meets needs and to keep abreast of new research. We also rely on the invaluable service of our dedicated volunteers throughout the three strands of the charity.

The Children’s Centre, Nursery & Preschool and Literacy Programme each have their own dedicated teams, supported by operations staff and led by the CEO and Board of Directors.

Volunteers

Volunteering looks different for everyone and is possible in all areas of the charity. Some of our volunteers are able to offer a regular weekly commitment, whilst others donate a few hours of spare time whenever possible or offer a service in line with their talents and skills.

We would love to show you around if you are interested in becoming part of the Bright Beginnings’ family.
